DESCRIPTION:
Nkelenga is charming old-world sole-use, self-catering lodge set within the Thornybush Reserve overlooking one of busiest dams in the Reserve. A hive of bird and mammal activity will keep you enthralled, while you unwind on the large deck of your safari tent or on the large lawns within the secure camp.

This basic bush camp, which is only available for family and group safari stays, has won the hearts of many travelers, particularly our South African visitors who keep coming back. Having a home like this to yourself is a magical experience that offers the ideal chance to rekindle your friendships and family ties.

Nkelenga Tented Camp offers very comfortable self catering accommodation and excellent game viewing opportunities in the Thornybush Game Reserve. The camp is ideal for families, large groups or informal business breakaways. Enjoy warm African evenings under the stars and totally unwind and relax.

There are three comfortable, Meru-style air-conditioned tents positioned on wooden stilts overlooking an active dam at the Nkelenga Tented Camp. They all have their own shaded decks with comfortable armchairs and are perfect for enjoying a bit of quiet time. One tent has a king size bed and the 2 remaining tents are twin beds. In the winter months electric blankets are placed on the beds to keep you warm.

Each tent has gauze windows with flaps that are closed in the evening, but still allow for you to hear all the wonderful calls of the wild throughout the night. The tents are all en-suite with a shower, basin and toilet. Inside the main house has a bedroom with a separate bathroom, and a loft area with 4 single beds – perfect for kids to enjoy!

Besides the accommodation and game vehicle – you will have a skilled guide and tracker who will not only lead memorable and educational safaris, but also help pack cooler boxes for sundowners and flasks for morning coffee stops. A housekeeper services the rooms daily, linens and amenities are all provided. This wonderful person will also clean the public areas and help wash dishes, when needed. Ice, drinking water and firewood are also provided.

OUR TIPS:
As the reserve is characterised by open savannahs, wildlife viewing is excellent here making for memorable wildlife encounters. The best time for safaris is early in the mornings during sunrise and then again late in the afternoon. The afternoon safari drives lead into the sunset making wildlife viewing a special event with torch lights.
