DESCRIPTION:
Newly rearchitected Tanda Tula Safari Camp takes full advantage of its position on the Nhlaralumi River in South Africa’s Timbavati Private Nature Reserve to create intimate guest experiences across the breadth of the camp. Tanda Tula Safari Camp has evolved from the traditional Meru-style tents to a light-filled and transparent design that merges seamlessly with the wilderness. Consisting of 9 hybrid canvas and glass suites, each suite is positioned so that all the interior and outdoor spaces have uninterrupted views across the riverbed.

Expect breathtaking natural light. Walls that disappear. Shades and textures that reflect your wild surroundings. The deep aubergine of a purple pod cluster leaf. Wonderfully textured wood. The green shades of the silver cluster leaf trees. The intricate patterns in traditional Tsonga design. Contemporary local art. Fine linens. The entire front of the suite is a combination of sliding glass doors and canvas sliding walls, allowing the light to flood in. Outdoor covered decks and private plunge pools, ideal for dining and relaxing, with sunken bench seating – bringing you closer to nature.

These ecologically sensitive suites are fully ‘off grid’, powered by solar with water wise systems.

With a prime location in the game rich Timbavati reserve, Tanda Tula aprovides ample opportunities for excellent game viewing. Twice-daily game drives will put you out in the wild and close up and personal with the Big Five and a host of sammler bushveld creatures. The morning drive sets off at the crack of dawn with your own professional ranger and tracker team. The diversity of wildlife that you can see on the drive is astounding as the reserve is unfenced to the adjacent Kruger park, allowing for the free passage of animals. Huge buffalo and elephant herds through the area making for astounding sightings, and the Timbavati is renowned for being home to big prides of lion. And what’s even nicer is that the game drives at Tanda Tula are conducetd in open 4x4s utilized and are limited to just 6 guests per vehicle so that there’s loads of space and everyone gets to enjoy a "window seat!"

One of the things that Tanda Tula really delivers on are those unique experiences that surprise and delight their guests; morning game drives often culminate in an intimate bush breakfast set up in a dry river bed! And this is perhaps the most pleasing thing of all about Tanda Tula - the warmth of the people who live and work there sparks a safari of self-discovery, and immersion within the rhythms of the African wilderness that despite the lodge's very impressive and luxurious physical transformation, the legendary staff service and family atmosphere are still present.

Excellent game viewing in the Timbavati – the reserve is famous for huge herds of ellies and buffalo as well as lions (including of course the legendary white lions that you may be lucky enough to see at Tanda Tula!)
The contemporary styling of the open-air boma as well as the dining room, the food and friendly staff.

With just 6 guests per game drive vehicle, everyone is assured of a "window seat" - this is much better for both comfort and space as well as affording better visibility at sightings for photographers in particular
Take a cooling dip in the main swimming pool, warthogs and nyala grazing on the lawns alongside, whilst you watch the stream of animals coming to drink at the lodge waterhole mere metres in front of you!

OUR TIPS:
Relax with a drink, a good book or a pair of binoculars on your deck which is perched above the picturesque Nhlaralumi river bed and drink in the views - an added bonus is that these views can also be experienced from the comfort of your bed given the glass fronted design of the Suites.
