DESCRIPTION:
Experience the real magic of Africa at Umlani Bushcamp.
This beautifully designed eco lodge is off the grid and beaten tourist track, offering intimate and thrilling wildlife encounters, award-winning meals and a chance to reconnect with nature in one of Africa's world-renowned, unspoilt wilderness reserves. Explore the wonders of the Timbavati Game Reserve, a private nature reserve that shares an unfenced border with the legendary Kruger National Park.
Flickering lanterns providing an atmospheric backdrop (there’s no electricity at Umlani) guests are consistently blown away by the wonderfully authentic ambience of this charmingly simple lodge! You’ll feel yourself transported back a hundred years to the old days of heading off on safari.
The unfenced Timbavati Reserve provides some incredible sightings – from massive herds of buffalo over a thousand strong, to large prides of lion often competing over territory and big breeding herds of elephant – and Umlani’s expert rangers have the knowledge and bush craft to put you at the centre of the action.
There’s a genuine warmth to the hospitality on offer from the staff which makes a deep impression. Umlani’s responsible tourism practices – from management and employment, to ecological practices and sustainability – are among the most progressive we’ve seen. Here, your safari makes a difference to people’s lives whilst you’re having the experience of a lifetime.
Relax in a hammock around the swimming pool with a cold drink courtesy of the friendly bar staff whilst you watch the animals coming in to slake their own thirst at the waterhole on the other side of the riverbed
In keeping with the rest of the lodge, meals at Umlani are simple and unpretentious but unfailingly delicious (which we far prefer to some lodges’ failed attempts at providing ultra-sophisticated dining in the bush)
Umlani is renowned for our outstanding rangers and trackers, who will not only find you the game, but will also introduce you to the wealth of flora, fauna, bird life and cultural heritage of the region. You will be taken out on two game drives per day, in open top 4 wheel drive vehicles. The morning game drive will leave at dawn and the night drive will leave in the late afternoon. There is always a ranger on stand-by for an optional morning bush walk.

OUR TIPS:
Umlani BushcampUmlani strips things back to old-style basics – it’s certainly not an approach that is going to appeal to all of today’s increasingly pampered travellers, but for those who “get it” Umlani’s simplicity creates an inimitable atmosphere and experience which is rewarded with rave reviews!
