DESCRIPTION:
Makhaza Private Game Lodge is situated in an ancient and rare sand forest within the Munywana Game Reserve alongside the &Beyond Phinda Game Reserve. Once through the gate of &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve, Makhasa offers tranquil lodging accented by the sights and sounds of the bush, as part of the greater Munywana Game Reserve. Phinda Game Reserve and Zuka Game Reserve, as well as other properties and farms, form part of the World renowned Munywana Game Reserve into which the Makhasa Nature Reserve was recently included when fences were dropped with Phinda Game Reserve, to create a larger conservation area.
Makhasa guests enjoy two private game drive experiences a day (sunrise and sunset) with &Beyond Phinda’s world-class trained guides. This experience offers private traversing over more than 12 000 hectares through seven distinct habitats by vehicle offering fantastic opportunities to view the Big 5, numerous plains and forest game and incredible bird sightings.
The lodge ony has 6 private suites which all have en-suite bathrooms, shaded balconies with glass doors and air conditioning. Wi-Fi connectivity is available throughout the lodge and suites.
Breakfast and lunch are served on the deck, with a shaded view of the nearby watering hole. Guests can expect all sorts of wildlife visitors, including members of the Big 5, to make an appearance. Be sure to relax on the deck while joining the waterhole callers.
Whether tracking, photographing or birding, guests can expect a plentiful place to be inspired and rejuvenated.
As one of KwaZulu-Natal’s premier game viewing destinations, the Munywana is home to an incredibly diverse conservation area, boasting over 31 000 ha of unspoiled wilderness, bordering South Africa’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site – the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Residents in this part of the world include lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, leopards, and cheetah. Munywana Game Reserve is home to the rare dry sand forest, a gorgeous forest of large trees, cacti, ferns and orchids. There are only 6000 hectares of this rare sand forest in existence and over 1000 hectares is here within the Greater Munywana Conservancy. The Munywana Conservancy is an excellent place for bird watching, with 436 species of birds living in the area. For the bird enthusiasts – a breeding pair of Narina Trogans are frequently spotted at Makhasa Lodge.
