  • Safari Plains

Safari Plains Safari Lodge in the malaria-free Greater Mabula Reserve safari-plains-suite-2.png safari-plains-room1jpeg safari-plains-aerial-7.jpg safari-plains-suite-2.png 1/16 Location Greater Mabula Game Reserve Waterberg region Limpopo South Africa DESCRIPTION: Set against the backdrop of the magnificent Waterberg Mountains in the Limpopo Province, Safari Plains proudly welcomes guests to relax and rejuvenate in the tranquil Africa bush. The exquisite beauty of wide open savannas with its rich wildlife heritage and spectacular vistas are a melting pot for a majestic wilderness destination. Close enough to Gauteng, only a couple of hours drive the luxurious haven that is Safari Plains will draw everyone who has experienced it to return again and again. Safari Plains redefines luxury in the bush from the impressive high-ceilinged dining room and elegant lounge to the impressive bar and relaxing spa. Enter our bush-veld connoisseur, romantic at heart and families alike. Each of the gorgeous tented suites commands a private space within the natural indigenous bush-veld. These safari style tents offer great comfort and a luxurious ambiance with private timber wrap around decks. A romantic swing or authentic safari seating offers a great space to sit outdoors and enjoy the views over the waterhole. The six luxury tents offer a slightly larger main area and come complete with a private sala which is perfect for whiling away a lazy afternoon. Air conditioning throughout ensure guests can enjoy year round temperature controlled tented accommodation. Great news for families with kids is that half of the tents are Family tents which boast 2 bedrooms, the first boasting a massive king size bed and the second with twin beds for the kids. There really is little to match the romance and atmosphere of sleeping in a luxury safari tent and the hugely spacious examples at Safari Plains are no exception, allowing you to enjoy the night chorus of the bushveld whilst still feeling safely ensconced in the comfort and security of your warm bed! Safari Plains actually lies on a piece of adjacent land just outside the Mabula reserve and was previously an independent reserve known as Thandeka – however it has now been taken over and superbly upgraded by the operators of Mabula and given its own private entry gates into the Mabula reserve for most game drives (accessed via a short drive from the camp) There is however a good variety of plains game to be seen on Safari Plain’s own land, with unusual species like sable antelope being a particular attraction. Whether you’re relaxing on the pool deck or enjoying dinner, one thing that is likely to stand out is the friendliness of the staff, with much of the feedback from guests giving rave reviews in this regard. This extends to the rangers who go out of their way to make sure that guests enjoy their drives. As mentioned previously, drives take place on the Mabula reserve which provides reliable and at times rewarding game viewing. With the reserve being divided into 2 sections – one with lions and the other without – there’s also the chance to enjoy some of the more unusual activities on offer in the non-predator section, including quad biking and horse-back safaris! And after all that action, what could be better than unwinding with a couple’s massage at the lodge’s lovely Spa… Special SADC Midweek Rate R2,965 per person sharing per night in a Safari Suite. The short travel time from Johannesburg is a massive bonus – leave the office and just a couple of hours later you can be enjoying a welcome cocktail served by one of the friendly lodge staff who receive so many rave reviews from guests for their great service!.

  • Last Word Madikwe Bush House

Last Word Madikwe Bush House Safari Lodge in the Madikwe Reserve the-bush-house06.jpg the-bush-house05.jpg the-bush-house115.jpg the-bush-house06.jpg 1/18 Location Madikwe Big 5 Game Reserve, North West Province DESCRIPTION: The Bush House is not your typical Game lodge. The Lodge is set in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve. It is an old farmhouse that after years of family laughter and happiness has been transformed into an inviting and relaxing residence that encourages guests to kick off their shoes and unwind. What makes The Bush House different? Perhaps it’s in the people who make you feel so warmly welcome, at the bar after your game drive, at the brunch table, or in the boma for dinner under the stars. The staff prides themselves on really caring for guests and being attentive to their needs. As an owner managed Lodge the personal touch is an integral part of the service. Perhaps it’s in the sense of the bushveld. The dust of the elephant herds, the closeness of the rhino, the fleeting glimpse of the leopard… or the massive power of the buffalo coming down to drink at the waterhole within meters of the front lawn. It could be the luxuries you enjoy. The sumptuous bushveld cuisine or the service so close you only have to lift a finger. Or maybe it’s more about the whole experience than a single sighting. More about the memories you made while you were one with nature as you pulled the bushveld around your shoulders like a blanket, and in a strange, familiar way you felt completely at home. The Bush House does not have to be booked out exclusively, each room can be sold individually. That’s why people come back to The Bush House. Again and again. For most of our guests it’s just like that, like coming home – even for the first time. There are six en-suite bedrooms. Four of them have private verandas where you can sit and contemplate the world, one overlooks the garden and waterhole with another having the soothing sounds of a water feature outside the sliding door. All rooms form part of the main lodge so there are no unnecessary long walks to your room. The Bush House Chefs, who together create a wonderful culinary repertoire, whether it is breakfast in the garden, afternoon tea packed with treats or a fire-lit dinner in the Boma under the stars. Enjoy relaxing in the large shaded garden overlooking the best waterhole in Madikwe. Lounge at the pool while the staff take care of your every need. Enjoy a friendly game of cricket, rugby or soccer on the lawn. The roof which is just above ground level is reinforced and can carry the weight of any elephant that might wander across the top. The Hide is accessed from a path within the Lodge garden, or from the swimming pool, so guests can safely move along the walkway and into the tunnel without being seen by the animals and in complete safety. The front of The Hide has an expanded metal grid which is completely open and out of sight but can be quickly dropped if anyone is feeling nervous. OUR TIPS The pathways, tunnel and hide are all lit at night so are available for use by guests 24 hours a day. • Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge

Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge Game Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve 1/8 Location Madikwe Game Reserve, North West Province, South Africa Madikwe Game Reserve is currently the country's fourth largest game reserve and home to the Big 5 and a host of other game. DESCRIPTION: Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge is situated on the Tweedepoort Ridge overlooking the plains and inselbergs of the western section of Madikwe Game Reserve. Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge is a 16-bed luxury facility designed by Nick Plewman, an acclaimed small lodge designer. The lodge is situated at a prime site in the west of the Madikwe Game Reserve, straddling the Tweedepoort Ridge with expansive views across the northern plains and Inselbergs. The central lodge sits on the slopes of a hill across a ravine, separating it from the chalets. Each of the chalets is positioned on the ridge with expansive views to the north. The main lodge is spectacularly located on two tiers of the ridge and is accessed via a wooden bridge that crosses a ravine surrounded by rock figs. Each of the living areas has its own character, mood and style providing guests with a choice of breathtaking views and tranquil spaces. The other stand-out about Buffalo Ridge is its intimacy and seclusion. With only eight suites in total, there’s a very definite feeling of exclusivity to the lodgings, and as the chalets are built on a separate tier to the main lodge you get a distinctive feeling of having your very own personal suite right in the bush. Each chalet follows this theme of making you feel like a VIP: these thatched suites each have their own private viewing deck. The rooms themselves are spacious and neat with simple and quite rustic décor touches. Thatch roofing and soft sandy tones work beautifully with the set rock inlay of the walls and the chalet’s authentic indigenous wooden counters and pillars to inspire a feeling of being a part of nature. This feeling is underscored by the design’s focus on openness and airiness: sliding doors open out fully on to a deck with seating where you can relax and admire the views; the walk-in showers also add to this feeling of spaciousness. EXCELLENT GAME VIEWING The game-viewing at Buffalo Ridge is superb, much like most safari lodges in Madikwe – but what makes Buffalo Ridge different are the rangers. Locally sourced and trained from the community, they show an obvious love for this, their home. The Big Five are all present and accounted for, as well as plains game (zebra and antelope in droves!), and none of them escape the professionalism eye and bush skill of your guides. These rangers – in fact, all the staff – show a keen knowledge of local flora, fauna and history. Whether you want to know more about the elephant herd you just saw or about what the history of the Balete tribe is, you’ll always be able to find an interesting answer, delivered with a smile. As an added bonus, the Madikwe reserve is utterly free from malaria which is a big plus for families especially. Speaking of which, Buffalo Ridge is a lodge where kids are genuinely welcome! Special SADC Last Minute Rate R3,975 per person sharing per night. Valid until 15 December 2024 Standard Rate R5,950 per person sharing per night SUBMIT ENQUIRY PRICE INCLUDES: Accommodation All meals, teas and coffee Game drives and Safari Activities HIGHLIGHTS Madikwe Game Reserve is home to a tremendous diversity of fauna and flora, including both the black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog.
